A lot has happened in the life of Brody Dalle over the past decade or so. She's dealt with the collapse of her band The Distillers, battled with a crystal meth addiction, married Josh Homme and become a mum to two kids. Most recently, she's recorded her first solo album, Diploid Love, which she says was written for “kids everywhere who are bullied for being different".

In a recent interview with the Guardian's Charlotte Richardson Andrews, Dalle said the songs are about survival but aren't solely personal. She also revealed that her thoughts on politics and the environment inform the record. 

“Politically, I still feel … not necessarily anarchistic, but I still have a problem with authority," she said. "I don't want to take any shit and I don't want other people to take any shit."
